When FMO was a baby, he loved any and all baby foods. He got soooo excited every time he tried something new, he looked like he would explode! He ate a decent variety of solid foods, but over time, his preferences narrowed to just a few things he really wanted and even fewer things he would begrudgingly tolerate. He is suspicious and resistant to trying new foods or foods he hasn't eaten in a long time. I juiced fruits and veggies, snuck healthy ingredients into recipes, and even resorted to combining new foods with those he likes. My friends were understandably appalled at my tuna fish and peanut butter concoction sandwich.
I decided it is high time FMO expanded his food horizons. So, we are using the old fashioned method - bribery. Lately, FMO is really doing great asking for what he wants, using anywhere from one word to full sentences. When he asks for something he wants, like a favorite kids song on YouTube, we tell him to try a new food first.
So far, he has refused hot dog and spit out a bite of breaded chicken nugget. He tried apple, broccoli, and watermelon. Apples were a hit! Now he eats apples everyday. The jury is still out on watermelon, but it feels like big progress in the War on Food.
